Every nook and cranny of your home needs at least some amount of maintenance, and this also includes the portals in your home in the form of doors and windows. In fact, these are the very first thing you should coat with your preferred shade of colour, when beginning with your painting arrangements.
External doors and windows are susceptible to chipping or damage because of how often they are used by us. The only way to protect them from this inevitable wear and tear is by making sure you cover them with top quality door and window paint.
Doing this every now and then in set intervals of time will not only grace your thresholds with the protection they need, but also give them a visually arresting appeal pertaining to the colour and texture you bestow upon them during the painting process.
Now if you are someone who is proficient enough to push a paint brush or paint roller across the surface of a door, then by all means carry on with confidence. As for others, doing something as ostensibly simple as painting the doors or windows of your house can be a tad bit challenging.
So we at Creative Resins would like to acquaint you with a few steps and tips that you can learn to paint your external doors and windows like a pro. Along the way, we will also introduce you to a few of our best selling paint products and equipment that can make your entire painting experience all the more convenient and fun.
1 – Getting Ready
If you are attempting a full makeover of your doors and windows, then you must set aside a time wherein you will not be interrupted by work or mundane choirs. Weekends are often more suitable to carry out such excursions. Take your time in selecting the colour, buying all the necessary supplies and equipment you will need to execute your task.
We highly recommend days which are clear and sunny with moderate temperature to begin painting your doors. Such weathers are preferable as they afford your painted surface with enough leeway to dry completely.
2 – Choosing Colour
Sticking colour paint swatches to your door or window surface is one of the many ways by which you can make a decision regarding the colour you will ultimately choose. If you are confused between two or three options then purchase small paint samples and apply them to small areas of your intended surface in order to get an idea of what that particular colour may look like on your door or window.
It’s a good idea to view them at different times in a day to gauge exactly how the colour appears as the natural light outside dims and brightens. There is no need to get overwhelmed here with the amount of options at your disposal. With a few sample tries you will definitely land on an aesthetic you’re looking for.
3 – Choosing the Paint
The paint you ultimately choose, especially on your exterior door, will largely depend on your preference. With regards to creative resins vast gallery of surface coating products, we have a few remarkable suggestions to make to assist you in your endeavors.
For an enhanced, albeit fancier look, Creative Resins brings a plethora of options in the PlasPaint special effects category that allows you to cover your doors with unique and attractive designs. You can coat your door entirely with metallic paint, to give it a shiny, silver, gold or bronze appearance or apply the new rust paint, to give it a grainier texture. Other variants such as ‘pearl’, ‘crackle’ etc. are also available to grace your doors and windows with visually arresting designs.
Depending on the material used to construct your doors and windows you can also try the PlasPaint H2O. This specially formulated VOC-free water-based Polyurethane dispersion for coating various types of plastics especially PVCu, (uPVC). The coating has a unique dual adhesion system that forms a molecular cross bond with PVCu and other plastics becoming an integral part of the substrate surface. It also forms an excellent chemical bond with composite materials, steel, and aluminium. This also makes it an excellent paint for external doors and windows.
Finally, to make matters even simpler, you can try Creative Resins’ PlasPaint Brush ‘n’ Roll, a paint variant specifically designed for self-application via a paint brush or paint roller. PlasPaint Brush ‘n’ Roll is an all in one primer and topcoat combined making the whole process even more straight forward.
All of the above products are weatherproof, UV stable, water and heat resistant. As such, they come with a formidable 10 year warranty period.
4 – How to Start Painting Your Doors and Windows
Once you have your equipment and paint colour set, you can proceed with the painting process. Now to start painting, you can either choose to paint the door while it is attached to the frame or to make matters simpler, detach it from its hinges and paint in a place more comfortable. We would recommend painting it in situ and taking the time to mask areas you don’t want painted with masking tape.
Remove all the hardware present on the door like letter box, numbers, knocker etc for seamless painting. Keep all the parts in a safe place so they can be simply reinstalled when the paint is dry.
Use a sandpaper to lightly key the surface to be painted so that the new paint can adhere much better to the surface of the door or window. Once done, clean the entire surface using a degreaser which will remove any remaining dust and grease. You want your surface nice and clean in order to paint over it without any hassle and achieve that real professional finish.
Now take a roller and begin by applying a first light coat to cover the surface completely. Leave this base coat to dry for a short time, normally around 15 minutes. Once done use a small paintbrush to carefully cut into and around areas such as hinges or door locks or any hardware items that have not been removed from the door or window. Now start the actual final top coat painting process by dipping your paint brush and roller in the paint and covering the door with it. You can start with a roller and then use the paint brush to cut into those difficult areas.
Once you’ve covered the door with your desired paint product, leave it to dry completely. Reattach all the hardware that had removed.

1 – Reasons to Use Concrete Floor Paint
Starting with the most obvious, your floor needs protection just like every other surface in your house, office or factory. Paint is particularly more imperative for floor protection than anything else. A strong surface coating that can tolerate high traffic areas is your ideal option when it comes to a concrete floor paint product. With high-quality paint, you ensure your floor remains impervious to damage from the constant movement of heavy machinery and foot fall which is quite typical in commercial settings.
2 – Ensures Safety
Well applied floor paint will not only protect your floors but can also help to protect the manpower working in your commercial space. Floor coatings can be used to highlight spaces in the area which are not safe. The paint can also have special anti-slip properties which is paramount for health and safety in certain locations. Bright colours and even fluorescent paints help keep people where they are supposed to be. Plus a high gloss floor coating can also help light up an area pretty well thanks to its ability to reflect light. A perfectly coated floor can also help in preventing accidental slips and trips.
4 – Attractiveness
Protection isn’t the only goal when painting a floor. Floor paint can also be used to implement a catchy design or cover the floor in an attractive blend of colours creating a spectacular theme yet still providing durability, safety and anti-slip properties if required. Hiring an experienced painter can help to achieve this or it’s relatively easy to do yourself. If you make a mistake or don’t like the end result just paint it again.
5 – Easy to Clean
Using the best quality concrete floor paints will help you to create a surface that is considerably easier to clean than before. You can seamlessly and evenly coat your floor with an epoxy-based paint that free flows to make sure your floor surface is smooth enough for easy occasional cleaning.
How to Use Concrete Floor Paint Yourself.
The paints are designed to apply easily and usually offer great coverage. Anyone with some basic DIY skills can get achieve a very professional finish. Here are a few key steps that will help you achieve those results.
1 – Primer
It is incredibly important to make sure your floor is completely dry before you proceed you’re your final paint coating. If it is newly laid (sometimes referred to as Green Concrete) then it should be allowed to fully cure before doing any painting. When its fully cured we highly recommend using a sealing primer paint first which will act as a moisture barrier as well as preventing concrete dust. These concrete sealing paints are water based and environmentally friendly with very low VOC’s.
2 – Prepare the Floor
If the floor has been previously painted make sure that any loose or peeling paint is removed. This is best achieved by sanding the floor areas to remove any old paint residue leaving a smooth surface ready for painting.
3 – Fill Holes
If your floor exhibits cracks and holes, use a concrete filling compound to repair them. You can use a trowel to push them deep into any depressions you witness on the floor. Once done, leave it alone to dry. You can skip right ahead to the next part if you are lucky enough to have an even smooth floor.
5 – Apply Concrete Floor Paint
Using a paint roller is probably the easiest method of painting a floor. Its quick and simple and doesn’t require any special skills. Apply two coats of your desired concrete floor paint. There is something distinctly appealing about a wall or surface that shines as you stare at it in amazement. Ever wondered what gave these surfaces the metallic shine they now so flamboyantly flaunt? Professionals in the industry call it chrome, and it is what mostly gives a modern silvery aesthetic to a bunch of other items, other than a wall.
So if you too find yourself enamored by this uniquely racy look, and want the same finish for your surface as well, then a top-quality chrome paint job is what you’ll need. However, most chrome, in general, suffer from the issue of durability. As a result, you may find the paint on your surface chipping away or mired with visible scratches.
Hence, it is very important to buy only the best chrome paint products in the market. In this article, we will acquaint you with a few factors to consider before buying chrome and list down all the benefits you and your surface can reap by covering it in chrome.
Things to Consider before buying Chrome
1 – Easy to Use
Your painting experience will vary depending on the brand and type of chrome paint you choose to employ for your project. We highly recommend using chrome spray paint for a relatively brisk and easy paint job. You will be required to apply more than one coat of paint before you can even consider your job finished. However, using the right paint equipment, and product will make your final result considerably better.
2 – Colour
Each brand of metallic chrome paint will be different in some form or another. Hence, we suggest you do some experiments of your own before covering your desired surface with it. There are many paint variations, from bright chrome to satin. The durability of your chrome project will depend on the quality of the materials you opt for. So choose wisely and research what you are doing.
3 – Drying Time
Some paint products will take longer than others to dry up. This can leave the painted surface vulnerable to taint due to interference from pests, dust, or your own clumsiness. We suggest keeping your chromed surface somewhere safe for a brief period of time to ensure you give the chrome mirror surface the time it needs to cure.
4 – Finish
Depending on the kind of chrome paint you use, the finish on your surface will also vary considerably. Some surfaces will get a high-gloss finish, while some offer a decent, smooth shine which is comparatively less reflective than the former. You can consult with your dealer, or refer to the container to know the finish you’ll get by using that particular type of chrome variant.
5 – Can Size
Calculate the surface area of your project and purchase enough chrome paint to complete the project.A single can may not be enough to paint your entire project with chrome. Check the manufacturers application instructions which should give you a guide to coverage. Most chrome paints are available in aerosol cans for smaller items or if you are using a conventional spray gun for large objects you can normally purchase in 1Ltr and 5Ltr options.
The Benefits of Using Chrome
There are a plethora of reasons why one might want to paint their surface with chrome. Some of the most typical reasons are listed below:
1 – It simply looks good
Giving any form of surface a distinct, immaculately metallic shine will instantly draw attention to it. That is what chrome accomplishes, especially with furniture and garden objects. It makes them look extremely attractive and much more valuable than they actually are.
2 – Protecting Your Ride
Protecting the Chrome surface and retaining that mirror finish is achieved by coating the surface of your project with water clear lacquers that are UV stable and weatherproof. This is the only way to help protect your surface from chipping and scratches that are typical of most surfaces today. Rest assured, using the right chrome products will give you peace of mind that your chrome surface will always look gleaming even after years of weathering.
3 – It is less toxic
Most chrome paint products do away with harmful toxins that may harm your health. The new chrome paint products available today are diluted into water and thus considerably less toxic. It is however very important to carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions as to health and safety as there are lots of chrome products around that are toxic.
4 – It is easy to use
You will need to follow precisely the manufacturers application instructions. Creating chrome and mirrored surfaces can be very easy but you will need the correct application equipment and a suitable application area.
5 –It’s versatile
Chrome can look exceptional and can be used on almost any surface. It can also be used to bring the a futuristic look to other items as well. Light fixtures, kitchen items, furniture, etc. can all benefit with a touch of chrome.

This is a legitimate doubt, and one of the main reasons why some can be hesitant to use chrome paint in the first place. You simply do not know whether your item will look great or horrible with chrome on it.
So we believe it would be a good idea to first inform you of all the items that will look massively better with a touch of chrome.
Items You Can Use Chrome Paint On
1 – Glass
Spraying antique mirror has never been so easy you can add special effects of colour within the glass itself, or you can add designs to the glass that will make it stand out. It is great to use in decorative settings adding that touch of class, its perfect for bars, restaurants or on table tops.
2 – Plastic
This process is the first step towards achieving high quality chrome on to plastic products allowing you to chrome virtually any plastic substrates such as acrylic, ABS and Polycarbonate for example. It’s also great for classic Car parts.
3 – Ceramics
A house gets most of its style and aesthetic appeal from the furniture that populates its every corner. So, if a modern, metallic look is what you are going for, then it would be a great idea to start with your furniture.
A Guide to Use Chrome Paint
Now that you are well aware of the items that can look considerably better with chrome, let’s walk you through the step-by-step process of using chrome paint appropriately.
1 – Clean the Surface
This is a no-brainer, and is a universally applicable principal when applying paint on any surface, clean it thoroughly. Use a clean cloth to gently scrub off all the dirt you find on the surface. Using a microfiber cloth, in particular, can significantly improve your cleaning process by helping you capture every speck of dust and grime found on the surface. The cleaner your surface the better results.
2 – Apply your base coat
The base coat is clear or black depending on what substrate you are spraying and will flow out evenly to give you a perfect finish. It is crucial that the base coat is sprayed evenly. Applying one full wet coat is adequate leaving a high gloss finish. As you get more familiar with the product, you’ll know how much to apply. If you are spraying glass you can skip this step.
3 – Use the Chrome Paint
Once your surface has been appropriately prepared, it’s time to spray it with chrome paint. To use the paint efficiently, we recommend holding the spray gun at least 10 inches away from the targeted surface.
Spray the part with the pre-activator until the water runs/appears smooth with no breaks or beading on surface. Let the product sit for few seconds whilst checking the appearance if breaks or beading occurs reapply until smooth and sheeted. Wash well with distilled water.
Next spray the activator over the entire part, soaking it into every crease and crevice of the parts until it appears smooth with no breaks or beading on the surface. Wash off after 30 seconds with distilled water.
Starting from the bottom and working up, chrome your object or glass with the dual head spray gun. It initially looks black, but as you begin to build the layer, chrome starts to show through.
rinse well with distilled water and use your air gun to dry immediately making sure there is not any water marks or burns. If you are chroming glass all that is left to do is back of your chrome finish with a black protective coat.
Spray our clear topcoat on to your object or add various colour tints if you’re looking for a coloured finish. Spray a rough dust/grip coat and leave for 3/5 mins until it feels dry, then apply a wet coat bringing your chrome to life.
The Bottom Line
You too can expertly paint your desired surface with Creative Resins Chrome it if you follow the above prescribed steps thoroughly. The process is only as complex as you make it out to be. An accidental splatter of paint can instantly ruin the look you had in mind for your glass. Even with the best preparation beforehand, I can still guarantee you every sprayer has been there.
What you really need to concern yourself with however, is how you are going to get the paint off the glass when you’re beyond the point of covering up the splatter. Glass paint removal is much easier than you might initially anticipate and there is a method available to ensure that stubborn paint comes off to give you a revived piece of glass, but be aware this is a messy process.
So, without much further ado, let’s get started!
You will require
Firstly, pour your gun cleaner into the trigger spray bottle and start to apply heavily to small sections of the glass. Once you have done this, leave the solution for 20-30 seconds to antagonize the paint.
Now here is the step where you must be extra careful. You can use a single razor blade and position it at approximately 45 degrees from the glass panel. Any mishap with the angle and you are likely to scratch your glass so make sure the paint has softened before proceeding. Do not be overly aggressive, take your time!
Push the blade slowly against the paint and peel away, one stroke after another. Keep the motion of moving the blade consistent. Make sure to keep applying the gun cleaner and even soak a cloth with your liquid mixture if you find this helps.
Once you have removed the bulk of the paint, use our glass cleaner to buff the glass. Pour the liquid heavily onto the glass and use your blue tissue roll to buffer back to its original condition. Use a clean blade for any leftover areas.
The Bottom Line
By following the above steps thoroughly, you will be able to remove any paint from your glass & also save yourself the additional cost of replacing it in the process. For top-quality products related to glass paints, you can visit the Creative Resins catalog now and choose some of the best paint for glass available on the market today at unparalleled prices.
