Advantages of Chrome Paint
There is something distinctly appealing about a wall or surface that shines as you stare at it in amazement. Ever wondered what gave these surfaces the metallic shine they now so flamboyantly flaunt? Professionals in the industry call it chrome, and it is what mostly gives a modern silvery aesthetic to a bunch of other items, other than a wall.
So if you too find yourself enamored by this uniquely racy look, and want the same finish for your surface as well, then a top-quality chrome paint job is what you’ll need. However, most chrome, in general, suffer from the issue of durability. As a result, you may find the paint on your surface chipping away or mired with visible scratches.
Hence, it is very important to buy only the best chrome paint products in the market. In this article, we will acquaint you with a few factors to consider before buying chrome and list down all the benefits you and your surface can reap by covering it in chrome.
Things to Consider before buying Chrome
1 – Easy to Use
Your painting experience will vary depending on the brand and type of chrome paint you choose to employ for your project. We highly recommend using chrome spray paint for a relatively brisk and easy paint job. You will be required to apply more than one coat of paint before you can even consider your job finished. However, using the right paint equipment, and product will make your final result considerably better.
2 – Colour
Each brand of metallic chrome paint will be different in some form or another. Hence, we suggest you do some experiments of your own before covering your desired surface with it. There are many paint variations, from bright chrome to satin. The durability of your chrome project will depend on the quality of the materials you opt for. So choose wisely and research what you are doing.
3 – Drying Time
Some paint products will take longer than others to dry up. This can leave the painted surface vulnerable to taint due to interference from pests, dust, or your own clumsiness. We suggest keeping your chromed surface somewhere safe for a brief period of time to ensure you give the chrome mirror surface the time it needs to cure.
4 – Finish
Depending on the kind of chrome paint you use, the finish on your surface will also vary considerably. Some surfaces will get a high-gloss finish, while some offer a decent, smooth shine which is comparatively less reflective than the former. You can consult with your dealer, or refer to the container to know the finish you’ll get by using that particular type of chrome variant.
5 – Can Size
Calculate the surface area of your project and purchase enough chrome paint to complete the project.A single can may not be enough to paint your entire project with chrome. Check the manufacturers application instructions which should give you a guide to coverage. Most chrome paints are available in aerosol cans for smaller items or if you are using a conventional spray gun for large objects you can normally purchase in 1Ltr and 5Ltr options.
The Benefits of Using Chrome
There are a plethora of reasons why one might want to paint their surface with chrome. Some of the most typical reasons are listed below:

This is the only way to help protect your surface from chipping and scratches that are typical of most surfaces today. Rest assured, using the right chrome products will give you peace of mind that your chrome surface will always look gleaming even after years of weathering.
3 – It is less toxic
Most chrome paint products do away with harmful toxins that may harm your health. The new chrome paint products available today are diluted into water and thus considerably less toxic. It is however very important to carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions as to health and safety as there are lots of chrome products around that are toxic.

A Guide to Use Chrome Paint
Now that you are well aware of the items that can look considerably better with chrome, let’s walk you through the step-by-step process of using chrome paint appropriately.
1 – Clean the Surface
This is a no-brainer, and is a universally applicable principal when applying paint on any surface, clean it thoroughly. Use a clean cloth to gently scrub off all the dirt you find on the surface. Using a microfiber cloth, in particular, can significantly improve your cleaning process by helping you capture every speck of dust and grime found on the surface. The cleaner your surface the better results.
2 – Apply your base coat
The base coat is clear or black depending on what substrate you are spraying and will flow out evenly to give you a perfect finish. It is crucial that the base coat is sprayed evenly. Applying one full wet coat is adequate leaving a high gloss finish. As you get more familiar with the product, you’ll know how much to apply. If you are spraying glass you can skip this step.
3 – Use the Chrome Paint
Once your surface has been appropriately prepared, it’s time to spray it with chrome paint. To use the paint efficiently, we recommend holding the spray gun at least 10 inches away from the targeted surface.
Spray the part with the pre-activator until the water runs/appears smooth with no breaks or beading on surface. Let the product sit for few seconds whilst checking the appearance if breaks or beading occurs reapply until smooth and sheeted. Wash well with distilled water.
Next spray the activator over the entire part, soaking it into every crease and crevice of the parts until it appears smooth with no breaks or beading on the surface. Wash off after 30 seconds with distilled water.
Starting from the bottom and working up, chrome your object or glass with the dual head spray gun. It initially looks black, but as you begin to build the layer, chrome starts to show through.
rinse well with distilled water and use your air gun to dry immediately making sure there is not any water marks or burns. If you are chroming glass all that is left to do is back of your chrome finish with a black protective coat.
Spray our clear topcoat on to your object or add various colour tints if you’re looking for a coloured finish. Spray a rough dust/grip coat and leave for 3/5 mins until it feels dry, then apply a wet coat bringing your chrome to life.
